It may come as a surprise to many older Americans that we have a reading and math crisis in one of the most affluent countries in the world. What is a math crisis? Many students have difficulty with math and reading from an early age that affects their
entire education. This so-called “crisis” stems from students’ difficulty in understanding
basic fundamental concepts. The “crisis” is exacerbated in urban communities of color
due to socioeconomic factors. The Daniels Foundation for Impact Investments and
Development is committed to battling this crisis in Florida with an extensive reading and
